Eagle Rock is located on the front side of Santa Catalina Harbor, about one mile west of Ship Rock. At this location, the position of the dense kelp growth can help a diver identify the conditions for the dive. If the kelp is flat beneath the surface, the current is strong and diving may not be comfortable. If the kelp is standing, this is a good location for scuba diving or snorkeling. Rocks and boulders form ledges which are home to the many creatures that inhabit this reef. Hundreds of lobsters, as well as sheephead are easy to find at night, but more difficult to see in the daytime when they hide amongst the cracks and holes. This is a popular site for fishing as well because the current brings baitfish that attract yellow tail. Be cautious of the large numbers of spearfishermen and fishing boats that are in this area. The depth range of this reef is 40 to 100 feet.
