A complex seamount with several pinnacles, Gull Island is a spectacular dive for novice to advanced divers. Rising from the bottom 120 below the surface, some of the pinnacles break the surface, the largest of which forms the island. In the sand around the rocks, divers can find clusters of white tubular squid eggs. Feeding on the eggs divers can see white sea bass, yellowtail, halibut, lingcod, and many rockfish species. Amongst spearfisherman, Gull Island has a great reputation for being the home to large schools of white sea bass in the spring and summer months. The rock mounds closer to the island make for an excellent shallow dive. Inside the kelp canopy divers will find opaleye, lobster, sheephead, and surfperch. Though an excellent spot for divers of all experience levels, only advanced divers should attempt to explore the walls as the surge can be dangerous.
