Search Tips:
You can enter GPS Coordinates in several different formats.
The most common formats found in most books and Web sites are:
| Format |
Example |
Notes |
| NN NN.NNNN |
24 59.380 |
Minutes of degree as a decimal number |
| NN NN NN |
24 59' 23" |
Hours, Minutes, Seconds |
| NN.NNNNNN |
24.989667 |
Decimal number |
In the example above, all three represent the same latitude. The presence of and position
of the decimal point is important. All other symbols (e.g., ', ", °) are optional.
Very Important: Even though most books and Web sites don't
show a "hemisphere" designator for longitudes in the United States, you must
enter either a "W" or negative symbol. For example, "W 080 22.920" or "-80 22.920".
