Very nice area, it needs your help
Nice beautiful area. However, sea fans and other plants are surrounded by fishing line. I would love to organize a trip with a few divers to clean the area. Some fisherman are careless and irresponsible, they pollute our oceans with fishing line.
Otherwise great beginner dive, watch for currents which might take you far away from your boat.

Very beat up, strictly for beginners
This shallow site is so beat up! :(

The close proximity to Miami, easily recognizable tower, and lack of mooring bouys has made Fowey one of the most beat up spots I've visited in the Miami and Keys area. For me, it's just the typical coral and fish... nothing more interesting (e.g. turtle, ray, eel, shark) although I'm sure with luck it's all there?

This is strictly a novice/family snorkel experience in my book.

Nice place to relax and enjoy some wildlife, and take in some sun.
Just went by there today, to check it out, it would be nice if they had some buoys there so anchoring doesnt hurt the corals. Around the light house makes the best snorkling, keep an eye out in all the crevices you'll see some nice sights, like sea urchins and brittles stars, also some amazing schools of fish. It would be nice if this could get more proctection so the wildlife could thrive more. Still a great place to take the family. Remember that this is outside the bay, and the seas may get a little rough, check the weather to make sure the day is smooth. Also please make sure to have a dive flag out even if your snorkling, boats get really close and you would not want to have an accident so far out.

PS: Dont leave without taking a jump from the platform!!

A cool snorkel spot that's easy for all ages.
We took the kids to Fowey today and had a great time! When we arrived there were several boats already anchored. This seemed to be a favorite spot for families with young kids.

The boys enjoyed spotting fish. We saw snapper, parrot fish, tangs, needles and assorted tiny tropicals. When we swam under the light tower, we saw fish hanging out in schools. There were some pretty fans and brain corals on the sandy bottom around the light.

We took the Biscayne Channel back into the Bay and anchored off Key Biscayne for lunch. We were treated to a visit by 8 bottlenose dolphin. The dolphin swam and played around our boat as we headed home. A great Sunday!
