Destin Bridge Rubble

Among the first projects of the Okaloosa County Artificial Reef Program was the deposit of concrete rubble from the Old Destin Bay Bridge. The rubble was sunk in the mid-1970s about one and one-half miles southeast of East Pass in depths ranging from 60-70 feet. Because the rubble has been underwater for so long, it has developed into a large fish haven.

Locals tell the story that to create a large debris field a fisherman moved the marker each night so that instead of dumping all the rubble in one spot as the county planned, the barge dumped the concrete in several spots. There are several sets of GPS coordinates published for this spot. The coordinates given are from Okaloosa County.

Divers report seeing large schools of baitfish with spadefish feeding. This is an excellent spot for spearfishing, especially for flounder. It's also a popular spot for check-out dives when getting certified.
