A nice intact ship wreck
I dove this wreck at first light this morning 1,18,2010. Vis was about 30' and water was snotty. Current was about 1KT to the south. There were plenty of small fish on and above the wreck. No AJ's or grouper. Always a nice dive I was a little disapointed not being able to shoot dinner.

Pretty Cool
HUGE intact shipwreck. We saw lots of barracuda's and jacks hanging around and the current wasn't all that bad.
There is a pretty big Goliath Grouper that was hanging out right on the deck in front of the main structure.
TONS AND TONS of places to look inside and explore on this one.
Looking forward to going back and exploring more of the Captn Dan.

Dove it on 6/9/07 with daughter, good visibility, will do it again.
This was a first time to 100ft for my daughter and it was a great experience. Current was moderate to strong on the surface to about 50 ft. We were flag poling on the rope. Saw a lot of fish but exploring the wreck was the highlight and the father/daughter experience.

Proper Coordinates?
We visited the site on 7-31-06 - - 2nd time using coordinates provided here. Could not find the wreck with sounder. Dove nonetheless and searched within a 150+ radius. No Capt Dan. Anyone here has updated DGPS Coordinates for the center of the wreck?

Excellent Dive Site
This is one of the best sites in Fort Lauderdale. Always lots of fish. I have seen large bull sharks on two occasions.

A must-see wreck for all. Very educational.
This wreck, the Capt. Dan, is a fantastic site. If anyone is interested in becoming an advanced diver or wreck & cave specialist, this is one for you. Though I didn't penetrate the hull or deck, there are easily visable access openings on both the bow and stern -- DO NOT ENTER THIS WRECK UNLESS YOU HAVE BEEN TRAINED TO DO SO. Ocean-ceiling to sand is 108 feet, with none to low current. Lots of fish along the ship's outer hull, and a general nice wreck to dive and just hang out (for only a few minutes). I will return soon, thanks to ScubaTyme III in Pompano Beach.
