Hello everyone,
I just want to introduce my self in hopes of meeting / diving with some of you in the future. I as you probably guessed from the title am new to scuba. I am actually in the middle of my certification class. My classmates and myself will be going to Islamorada the second weekend in August for our open water certs. I like my other classmates are in our mid 20's and live in Jacksonville. I am looking for a "dive club" or something of that nature to join. If any of you have suggestions let me know.

Well I did it! I am now NAUI certified. I did complete 5 dives one was a skin dive to practice the rescue portion of the test. I also completed 3 of the 6 dives that I need for my advanced certs. including an underwater navigation, a night dive ( very cool by the way) and a deep water dive ( the Eagle 110 ft ). I did a total of 8 dives and i am already inrolled in the advanced course so 3 of the 8 dives will count for my advanced certification. I am going to go to West Palm in a few weeks to finish up my advanced dives then I'm stepping right in to the Nitrox class. If any of you ever go to Islamorada I highly recommend staying at the Islander Resort. First class everything it was the best stay at a hotel I have ever had.
If any of you live / dive in the Northeast Florida area let me know I am up for diving off of Jax and or St. Augustine.

Dude, slow down!! Having a big ole stack of cert cards DOES NOT make you a good diver. I question any instructor/dive operator who will even try to kill two birds with an open water class! For your sake..take it easy and get to know the bottom before you get so carried away with specialties. I've got my Master cert from SSI and I know enough to know that my 75 dives and handful of courses don't mean a thing compared to my friends who stopped logging dives at 400 and are only considered to be "advanced" per their course work. BE SAFE!

You are DEAD ON THE MONEY!!!!!!!

We don't care how many certs you have. It's experience that counts. I meet "30 day wonders" every week, and I will tell you they are no more qualified to dive in excess of 30ft than a 1st time diver.
I personally have refused to guide quite a few divers whom I felt would only be relying on me or their "macho" to get the dive in.
It's about fun. And being safe & comfortable. Nothing more.
You will find many experienced divers who will gladly take a newbie under their wing (myself included).

It's not how many dives - it's how many times you surface
