  What inflator hose?

Ok, my gear is 10 years old and I can expect some problems. In spite of the fact that I have it serviced every year. But I really get upset when my wife?s gear has problems. This labor day we are diving out of Boca Inlet. Nice ledges both north and south of the inlet. My wife gives me the having trouble sign. As I approach I see she is trying to add air to her BC to neutralize her buoyancy. Pretty funny, she squeezes the button to add air, it comes out near her BC where the inflator hose connects. Ok, not so funny. Her inflator hose has split right at the purge valve. This will go down in my pre-dive check list a something to look for.

Question of the day: do we abort the dive or continue.

After all, before the advent of BC?s divers would dive and just swim off of the bottom. But on the other hand, these are modern times and we don?t need to make that kind of effort, nor do we need to vandalize the reef through such efforts.

Of course we are already on the bottom sooooooo?..

I am not a smart man. I come up with some of the darndest answers. I tried to manually inflate her BC myself from the break in her hose. That was funny. Blew a lot of air but none of it went in her BC. Next I tried to get her to put her safety sausage around her waist and put a little air in it. You all will have to have your own graphic images on how well that went. We finally settled on a technique that allowed us to continue our dive. She used my lobster snare as a push pole. Much like a blind person feeling there way along a street, she used the lobster snare to pick her spots and push along. Kept her off the reef. Needless to say she finally used more air on this dive than I did. She also broke the knobby thing off of my lobster snare. : ( But it was a delightful dive.
