I have been told by several divers that visit PCB quite often, to stay away from shell island due to shark attacks. However, I did a google search for shark attacks off Shell Island, and only found one from a long time ago. Can anyone comment?

the only shark attacks I can remember hearing anything about around PCB were behind the motels. Don't recall anything about Shell Island any time in the last 10 years.

My wife and I plus friends spend a week or two every year camping in the park and diving the area and on the way back in from many of our dives we will stop at the west end of Shell Island for a session of snorkeling or just floating around sipping something cool. In the 10+ years, 100+ dives of which over 10 were on the jettys there was only one case were we ran into too many sharks and that was though our own fault. It happened on 9/11, after frying our brains all day watching the tube my wife and I decided we really needed to get away from the TV so we headed out to dive the west jetty without giving any thought to how late in the day it was and that it would be dark when we finished our dive. We anchored in the cove behind the jetty, did the slither over the rocks thing and dove to near the outside point and back. Needless to say by the end of the dive we'd seen sharks. So for those who like diving with sharks I can highly recommend the PCB jetty twilight dive as a must do. As for myself I enjoy seeing sharks but not when it's so dark that you can't see them until they're less than 10ft away.
