How far is this from the shore? Would I be able to swim out and snorkel or is this not advisable?

Google earth shows it as about .46 miles, which some people would shore dive, but make sure you bring a float, have a buddy, and are a good diver/swimmer as weather can change fast this time of year. (I take no responsiblity for your actions)

As mentioned above:

If you're in good shape and weather is decent, you can do it from shore BUT use a Kayak and take a buddy.

On it the other day my gps said .55 miles to shore and I was thinking it would be no problem.
