I have a small condo in Panama City (Laguna Beach), Fla. and was wondering if there were any interesting dive/spearfishing sites that are accessible by dive kayak? I have been a diver for a while, but am new to PCB diving and am looking to get into freediving/spearfishing. I would appreciate any suggestions.

The jetty can be rough in a kayak because the pass gets busy with bigger power boats and commercial ships. If you put your kayak in at St. Andrews Park it's a straight shot across the pass to Shell Island which is a bit more isolated than the park side. If you're freediving the jetty in the pass beware the current and tides as they can get to be very strong at times and the rocks don't offer much mercy. Just inside the jetty wall on the island but away from the Gulf it is much calmer, but I can't tell you how good the fishing is there since I've never tried to spearfish in these waters. I don't freedive much so I'm usually in deeper waters off the coast several miles, but I've caught lots in the pass close to the jetty walls from a boat. Redfish, Grouper, and AJ's are typical in this area.

At the jetties in PCB you are not allowed to spearfish. I know this seems odd b/c you can line fish. Note to self: becareful diving the jetties when people are line fishing. It is very easy to get caught in their line with a nice hook on the end of it. They think they just caught the largest grouper ever. Make sure you bring a knife. I've made this mistake already.
